Powerful Speeches by Michael Cashman MEP and BBC’s Carol Bundock at LGBT Event in Norwich UK   Leave a comment

Michael Cashman MEP delivers a powerful speech at the LGBT event in Norwich.

LGBT History Month launch party at The Curve, Forum in Norwich, Norfolk, UK got off to a flying start. Celebrity guest speakers included former Eastenders star, Michael Cashman MEP and BBC presenter / Journalist, Carol Bundock. Carol, deputy Lord Lieutenant of Norfolk and president of the county’s Guides provided the banter underlining some valid points. Carol has worked for the BBC since 1989, when she joined BBC Radio Norfolk, after doing a degree in English and Drama at the University of East Anglia.

Michael delivered a powerful speech that touched on the explosive moment he helped make history when UK TV saw it’s first gay kiss. A kiss which led to not just public and political controversy but the start of attacking headlines by National press. David Todd from Norwich and District Carers Forum was the main sponsor for the event – The evening was introduced by former Lord Mayor of Norwich Jeremy Hooke. Jeremy was the youngest ever Lord Mayor for Norwich after he was chosen to fulfil the historic and prestigious civic role in 2008.

Lesbian Gay Bisexual Trans History Month takes place every year in February. It celebrates the lives and achievements of the LGBT community. It’s committed to educate, celebrate and promote its diversity and that of society as a whole. LGBT History Month is an opportunity for all of us to learn more about the histories of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people in the UK. In the past, LGBT people often remained hidden due to legislation. Even though we applaud the changing legal and social climate, many still live in fear of ostracism, prejudice, victimisation, assault, and even murder. Education and awareness can change this.
